Hi there Aussie Internet Marketer fans!!
The benefits of Long tail Keyword Research
Today’s post is about Long tail Keyword Research and why Long tail Keywords are a great way increase traffic to your web-site and convert visitors to clicks and sales. The visitors searching for long tail keywords know exactly what they want, for example if you are searching for something in particular on-line such as “Keyword Research”, if you are more specific in your search like “Long tail Keyword Research” and your search is more relevant the competition is most likely less. By using a long tail keyword you can rank on the first page of Google far easier than ranking for a short tail keyword because of the competition from competitors.
Recent research has found that long tail keyword searches often show a higher conversion rate by up to 200% compared to short tail keywords, and can be extremely profitable for Internet Marketer’s in terms of a lower cost per click and a higher return on investment.
According to Wikipedia the definition of Long tail Keyword Research is:
“The long tail in keyword research is basically an expansion of a core, generic, high volume keyword phrase to include numerous combination’s and permutations of the keywords and their associated or relevant phrases.”
Long tail Keywords v Short tail Keywords
Keywords can be split into two main groups, long tail keywords and short tail keywords or to put it in more simple terms broad keywords and narrow keywords. There has been some debate recently about which is the better of the two types of keywords , which one is more profitable and converts in terms of money and time.
If your Keyword is a brand name for example “Coca Cola” and your brand becomes well known right around the world just like “Coca Cola” is, then a short tail keyword is a better option as people will just search the brand name, but if you are trying to rank for a popular keyword relating to your niche, then a long tail keyword around your niche is a much cheaper option and helps get you ranked quicker with the search engines. It may take more time and effort in the short term researching profitable, less competitive, effective Long tail Keywords but the rewards in the long term will be most satisfying.
Long tail Keyword Research Tools
Not to long ago Keyword Research was a very manual, tedious and time consuming task, but some very smart people have developed different tools on-line to make it very easy for us Internet Marketer’s to do Long tail Keyword Research. I currently use Market Samurai, which is worth its weight in gold, for a nominal fee, it collects all the relevant keyword data at the touch of a button. Check out my new resource page to view some free Keyword Research video’s and be sure to download your free trial of Market Samurai here.
There are also some great free Keyword Research Tools available on-line, tools such as SEO book, Spyfu, Wordtracker and Google Adwords just to name a few of the more popular tools. I agree that Market Samurai is the way to go, Belinda. In my business, tho, I find it difficult to find any long tails that are worthwhile. Market Samurai, fortunately, tells me this and it’s not as if I am using long tails blindly.

Hi Belinda,
Online competition is a battlefield. Choosing your battles (and therefore your niche) through longer tail word keywords can be the way to go. As long as you identify the opportunity and maintain tracking of the keywords.
